Shame loves a religious vocabulary. It can sound almost holy while it tells you that you have gone past mercy, that the smart move is to punish yourself and stay away. Some people call that conscience. Often it is unbelief dressed up as piety. The heart has decided that condemnation is safer than grace, because condemnation at least keeps you in charge of the verdict.
Scripture answers with a different verdict. There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. The Lord invites reason, not despair: though sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow. And nothing in all creation can separate His people from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. That is not a slogan for people who never fell. It is news for people the Accuser keeps visiting. If you have been listening to the sentence that says heaven is closed, stop treating that voice as more authoritative than the cross. Confess the real sin. Refuse the fake holiness of self-punishment. Then walk as someone Christ has already claimed — forgiven, not on probation until you feel clean enough to pray.
