The Story

Everyone has expectations about what God should do. We want a King who will fix our circumstances, defeat our enemies, and make life run smoothly. When Jesus shows up offering something different, forgiveness, humility, a cross, many people cheer for a moment and then walk away disappointed. Nominal faith often does the same. We welcome Jesus on our terms and lose interest when He does not meet our agenda.

Centuries earlier, Zechariah told Jerusalem to rejoice because her King was coming, righteous and bringing salvation, humble and riding a donkey. When Jesus entered the city that way, the crowds shouted Hosanna, which means save us. They were right to ask, but most expected a political rescue. Within days the same city called for His death. Yet Jesus kept riding toward the cross, because the salvation He came to bring was deeper than they imagined. He came to deal with sin, not just with Rome. That is still how He comes. He does not force His way in like a conqueror. He comes humbly, offering peace with God bought by His own blood. The question is not whether we will cheer for a day, but whether we will welcome Him as He is, the King who saves.
