The Story

Unity is easy to brand and hard to dwell in. Churches can celebrate “community” while competition, scorekeeping, and thin patience do the real work underneath. The heart issue is not a preference for quiet over crowds. It is a refusal to bear with one another in love when people become inconvenient. We want the feeling of togetherness without the cost of staying.

Psalm 133 will not let unity become a marketing word. It is good and pleasant when brothers dwell in unity — and there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forevermore. That blessing is God’s gift, not a climate we manufacture with better slogans. Jesus prayed that believers may all be one just as the Father and He was One. Paul urges believers to walk worthy of the calling with humility, gentleness, and patience, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Maintain is the honest verb. Unity is given in the Spirit; we either receive and protect it, or we fracture it for pride. If you have been nursing a division you could heal with an apology, a soft answer, or a shared burden, do not call the distance discernment. Confess the rivalry. Seek peace. The life God commands among His people is not a photo. It is a people who stay.
