The Prodigal Son

Track 2 • 3:58
Art for The Prodigal Son

The Story

Leaving home to enjoy life as you want can feel like freedom. Life on your own terms is tempting — even when your faith is real. The news in Luke 15 is not that we find our way home by our determination and grit. God allows the run, and He is constantly running toward us when we are ready to return. This song is that picture: turn from your own way, come home, and meet the Father who already saw you a long way off and can't wait to accept you back.

Associated Scripture

Luke 15:20: "And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him."

Suno Style Prompt: Modern Country Pop, driving acoustic guitar, energetic kick drum, anthemic chorus, emotional build, modern narrative pop, upbeat commercial production

Lyrics

[Verse 1] I was hungry So I ran away My father gave me half his gold Said, "Son, you’ll regret this someday" But he waved to me from the road I had my hand on the wheel Just looking for a thrill [Verse 2] I was thirsty So I took the drink And all my friends were drinkin’ too They never cared much for what I think As long as I shared my brew I couldn’t make it alone I couldn’t go back home [Chorus] ’Cause it’s a long way down Yeah, I hit rock bottom and I lost my way I heard my father calling and he said "You know you’re always welcome home, My Prodigal Son" [Bridge] Spent my last dime on a broken dream Standing in the rain, living on the street Even hired hands at my father’s place Have a roof, have a meal, and a touch of grace I swallowed my pride, turned key in the car Headed back down the road, no matter how far ’Cause I’d rather be a servant at my father’s door Than running from the love I was made for [Final Chorus] Now I’m coming up the drive and I see him run Arms open wide for his prodigal son No shame, no blame, just a tear in his eye He pulled me in close and he started to cry He called out the family, threw the biggest party in town "My boy who was lost has finally been found!" [Outro] Yeah, the music is playing, the lights are up high Washed in forgiveness, bringing dead back to life Welcome home Oh, welcome home Yeah, my prodigal son, welcome home
