Temptation rarely announces itself honestly. It comes with flattering words, perfect timing, and a promise that no one will find out. Proverbs 7 tells a vivid story. A young man without sense wanders near a house he should avoid, at dusk, with no plan except curiosity. A smooth voice invites him in, and he follows like an animal heading to a trap. The chapter applies to anyone, man or woman, who drifts toward what will harm them.
The father’s answer is to treasure God’s word. Keep it the way you protect your own eyes. Bind it on your fingers. Write it on your heart. Call wisdom your sister and insight your close friend. The idea is not to stand near the edge and resist heroically, but to stay so close to the truth that you do not wander onto that street at all. Still, many people reading this have already walked through that door, and they carry shame. The gospel speaks to them clearly. Paul says the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation and training us to say no to ungodliness. Grace forgives first, then strengthens. Jesus was tempted in every way yet without sin, and He died for those who fell. Come to Him, and let His word become your treasure.

[Verse 1]
Keep the Word of God in sight,
A holy lamp to guide the night!
Bind His truth upon your hands,
Stand upon His good commands!
Call to wisdom, keep her near,
She will make the pathway clear!
[Chorus]
Keep His truth as the apple of your eye!
Turn away and let temptation pass on by!
Never let the darkness leave a mark,
God will lead you safely through the dark!
Keep your heart and keep it free,
Walking in the light for all to see!
(All to see!)
[Verse 2]
A simple heart without a guide,
Goes where danger loves to hide.
Sweet the words that seem so fair,
Laying down a sudden snare.
Do not wander down the street,
Guard the steps beneath your feet!
[Chorus]
Keep His truth as the apple of your eye!
Turn away and let temptation pass on by!
Never let the darkness leave a mark,
God will lead you safely through the dark!
Keep your heart and keep it free,
Walking in the light for all to see!
(All to see!)
[Bridge]
Do not let your spirit stray,
Turn away, turn away!
Hold fast to the truth you know,
Where the living waters flow!
[Chorus]
Keep His truth as the apple of your eye!
Turn away and let temptation pass on by!
Never let the darkness leave a mark,
God will lead you safely through the dark!
Keep your heart and keep it free,
Walking in the light for all to see!
[Outro]
Apple of your eye...
Keep your spirit free...
Walking in the light!
