Every time a church passes the bread and the cup, it's doing what Jesus asked for on the night He was betrayed. It's easy to come to that moment like a test we might fail, nervously checking whether our hearts are good enough to take part. But the meal was never about our performance. It's a gift He hands to people who arrived hungry, guilty, and far from home, and what He offers is Himself. Everything it took to bring us back, He paid, so the ones who ran from Him could be welcomed as His own family.
The meal points forward as much as it points back. Jesus told His friends that He would wait to share it again until His Father's kingdom had fully come, and that means every small piece of bread carries a promise. Grief is real, failure is real, and the empty chairs at our tables are real, but none of them gets the last word. So we come to remember what He has done, to lean on His care for us right now, and to long for the day we finally sit down with Him at the wedding feast He is preparing for everyone He calls His own.

Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Here in our hands, this simple crust of bread,
Mark of the body given in our place;
We were the rebels wandering lost,
You were the Shepherd stooping down in grace.
The debt was infinite, the cost was You,
Your wounded flesh has made the broken new.
[Chorus]
Till You come, till You come,
We take the bread, we drink the cup;
Till You come, Jesus, till You come,
We remember all Your love has done.
[Verse 2]
Here in the cup, the crimson of the vine,
Seal of the covenant written in Your veins;
No longer strangers begging for a sign,
Adopted children cleansed of every stain.
You drank the cup of wrath that we might live
And gave us grace that earth could never give.
[Chorus]
Till You come, till You come,
We take the bread, we drink the cup;
Till You come, Jesus, till You come,
We remember all Your love has done.
[Bridge]
You whispered, “I will drink of this no more
Until the Kingdom of My Father reigns!”
And so our hearts look past this earthly door
Where death is swallowed and no grief remains!
The Bride will rise, the wedding feast is near,
And Christ Himself will wipe away each tear!
[Chorus]
Till You come, till You come,
We take the bread, we drink the cup;
Till You come, Jesus, till You come,
We remember all Your love has done.
[Outro]
Even so, come now, Lord Jesus.
The table is ready,
But we long for the day
Till we drink it new with You.
