Drop the Knife

Art for Drop the Knife

The Story

It is possible to sound broken and still be bargaining. We ask God to clean the record while we keep a back door open to the same pattern—relief without surrender, tears without a changed path. That is not repentance. It is managing guilt while protecting the habit that caused it.

Mercy in Christ is better and harder than that. He does not wink at what destroys us; He invites us to leave it. Real grace is confess and forsake: open hands, no backup plan with sin, trust that His kindness is safer than the thing we keep reaching for.

Associated Scripture

Proverbs 28:13: "Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy."

Romans 6:1-2: "What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?"

Suno Style Prompt: Early 1970s acoustic soul ballad, melancholic and intimate, warm fingerpicked acoustic guitar, steady understated electric bassline, sparse hi-hat and light snare groove, emotive and gritty male soul vocal, deep chest voice shifting to impassioned delivery, lush orchestral string arrangements swelling in the background, warm vintage plate reverb, organic production style, raw emotional vulnerability, late-night blues-soul feel, unhurried 78 BPM tempo

Lyrics

[Verse 1] You got tears running down to the kitchen tile Swearing you’ve hated yourself for a while You say all the words that you know I should hear Hoping the dust and the fallout will clear You want me to tell you that everything’s fine Wipe the slate clean without paying a dime Standing right there with your coat in your hand Looking back at the place where the fire began [Pre-Chorus] We do this to the face of God! We mock the price that mercy cost! We oughta drop down in the dust Ashamed of what we claim to love! [Chorus] You can’t ask for grace with your hands full of stone Saying you're sorry don’t mean that you're home Tears on the floor don’t mean that you’ve changed If you’re keeping the habit, you still love the pain You don't get to keep what was killing you Drop the nyfe Yeah, drop the nyfe [Verse 2] You erased all the texts, but you kept every trace You hid it all better to save a little face You treat His forgiveness like buying you time Till the urge hits you hard and you cross over the line You want Him to bless you with one foot outside Feeding the monster you swore had just died A broken heart isn’t a card you can play To keep doing what put Him in nails on that day [Pre-Chorus] We do this to the face of God! We mock the price that mercy cost! We oughta drop down in the dust Ashamed of what we claim to love! [Chorus] You can’t ask for grace with your hands full of stone Saying you're sorry don’t mean that you're home Tears on the floor don’t mean that you’ve changed If you’re keeping the habit, you still love the pain You don't get to keep what was killing you Drop the nyfe Yeah, drop the nyfe [Bridge] He didn't call it sin to spoil your pride He called it sin because it kills inside! It's venom disguised as an easy high Rotting your bones while you swallow the lie You don't tame a viper! You don't play with the blade! Flee from the fire! Get out of the snare! Don't flirt with the dark— Turn around and RUN! [Chorus] You can’t ask for grace with your hands full of stone! Saying you're sorry don’t mean that you're home! Tears on the floor don’t mean that you’ve changed If you’re keeping the habit, you still love the pain! You don't get to keep what was killing you Drop the nyfe Yeah, drop the nyfe [Outro] Flee the fire. Run for your life. (Drop the nyfe) Don't ask for mercy while you're gripping the nyfe. Drop the nyfe.
