The heart loves height. We build spiritual towers — ministry, image, self-made fruit — and call the climb faithfulness. Then the Gardener comes with a blade. Loss, waiting, sharp correction. What felt like punishment is often love cutting back what cannot stay if deeper life is going to grow.
Jesus said the Father prunes every fruitful branch. Pruning is not rejection. It is belonging. He sees rot we defend. He does not delight in our pain, but He loves us enough to make us kneel. Endurance is how we stay under the hand that started the work and will finish it — winter included.
So submit the crooked places. Stop confusing self-glory with growth. Every cut that returns you to His design is a kindness. Fruit that lasts is for His name, not for the towers we wanted to show. Kneel, and let the Gardener finish what He began.

Lyrics
[Verse 1]
I was a vine that climbed too high
Building towers to a selfish sky
Proud of the work my hands could do
Until the fire came burning through
Twice the embers, twice the ash
The world came down in a sudden crash
But the Gardener knew what had to go
To let the deeper spirit grow.
[Chorus]
He's cutting me back to the design
The original lines of a faithful vine
Through the fire and the frost and the surgery light
He's setting the crooked spirit right
For the glory of Him alone.
[Verse 2]
Then came the winter, cold and deep
When the heart is tired and the senses sleep
A different blade, a sterile room
To cut the pride and the hidden gloom
He saw the rot I couldn't see
And brought the knife to the heart of me
He doesn't delight in the pain I feel
But He loves me enough to make me kneel.
[Bridge]
I have need of endurance now
To keep the promise and the vow
He started a work He's going to finish
With a love that never will diminish
Submit to the hand, remember the word
The finest song is the one He heard.
[Chorus]
He's cutting me back to the design
The original lines of a faithful vine
Through the fire and the frost and the surgery light
He's setting the crooked spirit right
For the glory of Him alone.
[Outro]
Every cut is a kind of grace.
I'm finding my soul in a quiet place.
Lord, I'm doing Your will.
Just for Your Name.
