God of All Comfort

Track 1 • 4:48
Art for God of All Comfort

The Story

Affliction does not book an appointment. It walks into an ordinary life and stays: a body that may not recover, people you love who will have to go on without your strength, a night when slogans feel cruel. A lot of church-talk answers that kind of pain by telling the sufferer to be brave and stop making others uncomfortable. That is not comfort. It is abandonment with a Bible verse taped on it.

Paul does not start with the sufferer’s grit. He starts with God’s name. The Father of mercies is the God of all comfort, and He comforts us in affliction so that the comfort does not die in the person who received it. Comfort in Scripture is God drawing near to people who cannot fix what broke them, then teaching those same people how to sit with someone else who is breaking. It is not a mood you manufacture. It is a Father who does not leave the crushed alone.

If you are in the dark, you do not have to perform strength for Him. Bring the ache. He is already the God who comforts, not the God who waits until you sound steady. And if He has carried you through a valley, look for the person still in one. Mercy that stopped at your own relief was only half received.

Psalm 34:18 (ESV): "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit."

Lyrics

[Verse 1] The sun came up just like it did before But now a shadow's standing at my door I look at my wife, see the tears she hides I look at the toys, my heart breaks inside How do I walk through a valley so deep? While the rest of the world is fast asleep I'm wrestling shadows, holding my breath Staring right into the sentence of death [Pre-Chorus] My strength is a vapor, my wisdom is small I'm reaching for hands that won't let me fall [Chorus] God of all comfort, Father of grace! Meet me right here in the hardest place When my strength is gone and the shadows fall You are the God who carries it all! Carry me, carry me, carry me through God of all comfort, I'm leaning on You! [Verse 2] Who's gonna hold her if I have to go? Who's gonna teach them what they need to know? The weight of tomorrow is crushing my chest How do I leave them and enter my rest? I wanted to stay here to lead and provide But now I must lay all my planning aside I know that You love them much more than I could And trust You to work every sorrow for good [Pre-Chorus] My strength is a vapor, my wisdom is small I'm reaching for hands that won't let me fall [Chorus] God of all comfort, Father of grace! Meet me right here in the hardest place When my strength is gone and the shadows fall You are the God who carries it all! Carry me, carry me, carry me through God of all comfort, I'm leaning on You! [Bridge] I know You can heal me with simply a word I know every prayer that I whisper is heard But whether You heal me or call me up home I know that my family is never alone! You are the shield for my kids and my wife! I hand You my future, I hand You my life! [Chorus] God of all comfort, Father of grace! Meet me right here in the hardest place When my strength is gone and the shadows fall You are the God who carries it all! Carry me, carry me, carry me through God of all comfort, I'm leaning on You! [Outro] I'm leaning on You I'm leaning on You God of all comfort.
