On the Rock

Track 9 • 3:18
Art for On the Rock

The Story

Most of us do not choose a foundation on purpose. We just lean on what has held so far: a paycheck, our health, the approval of people we respect, a sense that we are basically good. It works while the weather is mild. Then a layoff, a betrayal, or a hospital hallway shows what the house was really sitting on. Panic in a storm is often not weak faith. It is discovery. We find out what we were trusting all along.

Jesus said the wise builder is the one who hears His words and does them. That is not a call to earn safety by obedience. Paul makes clear there is only one foundation that can be laid, and it is Jesus Christ Himself. Building on Him means bringing your whole weight to what He says and what He has done, especially His death and resurrection for sinners. Notice that the storm hits both houses. Faith does not cancel the flood, and a flood is not proof that God is angry with you. The difference is what holds when it comes. If you are discovering cracks right now, that is mercy, not a verdict. Come to Christ today. He is a Rock that does not shift when markets, moods, or people do.

Lyrics

[Verse 1] They're digging foundations in the evening news - Chasing the trends that they're destined to lose. Building a life on a volatile stock - While I'm driving my stakes in the solid Rock. The weather is changing... the forecast is grim, But my windows are locked and I'm looking to Him. [Chorus] Let the rising waters pound - I'm holding to solid ground - Rain can fall, winds can shock My address is on the Rock Yeah... on the Rock [Verse 2] The world builds its towers out of fragile glass - Staring at shadows and praying they pass. When the floods of panic roll over the street, The crowd has no ground underneath of their feet. But ancient theology holds through the night - The pillars are solid... the structure is right. [Bridge] Let the climate shift - let the high tides roll - There's a deep bedrock... holding my soul! You can't shake a house... that is anchored in grace, It laughs at the storm... from a secure place! Built to last - built to stand, Goodbye to the shifting sand! [Chorus] Let the rising waters pound - I'm holding to solid ground - Rain can fall , winds can shock My address is on the Rock Yeah... on the Rock
