One More Candle

The Story

Most of us are bad at waiting. We refresh the tracking page, check the test results again, and fill every silence with noise because silence feels like nothing is happening. When God seems quiet, we usually assume one of two things. Either He has forgotten us, or it is up to us to make something happen.

Israel waited centuries between the last prophet and the first cry in Bethlehem. Those years looked empty, but God was not idle. He was keeping His word on His schedule, and when the right moment came, He sent His Son. The waiting was never wasted, because the outcome never depended on the people who waited. It depended on the God who promised.

Christians live in a second Advent. Jesus has come, and He has promised to come again. In between, it is easy to drift into a faith that only looks backward, a nice memory we revisit in December. Scripture calls us to look forward too. Biblical hope is not wishful thinking. It is confidence in a Person who has already proven He keeps His promises.

So waiting on God is not passive and it is not anxious. It is trust that keeps loving people, keeps praying, and keeps watching. If you are in a quiet season and wondering whether God is still at work, look at the manger. He kept that promise. He will keep the next one.

Lyrics

[Intro] Come, Lord Jesus, come [Verse 1] Four hundred years of silence Not a prophet, not a word Still the faithful kept on watching Holding on to what they heard A Child would bear the government A light would break the gloom So they lit a little candle In a dark and waiting room [Pre-Chorus] Hope is not a maybe It's a promise on the way [Chorus] Come, come, O long-expected One Come, come, the waiting's almost done We light one more candle Till the morning fills the sky Come, Lord Jesus, come Come, Lord Jesus, come [Verse 2] Comfort, comfort, cried Isaiah Clear a highway, clear the ground Every valley will be lifted Every mountain will come down Peace was never in our striving Never in the walls we built Peace is coming as a Person Who will carry all our guilt [Pre-Chorus] Hope is not a maybe It's a promise on the way [Chorus] Come, come, O long-expected One Come, come, the waiting's almost done We light one more candle Till the morning fills the sky Come, Lord Jesus, come Come, Lord Jesus, come [Bridge] When the fullness of the time had come God sent forth His only Son Joy came down in Bethlehem Love will bring Him back again [Verse 3] Now we wait the way they waited For the King to split the sky He will wipe away our weeping He will make the crooked right So we love while we are watching Keep our lamps burning bright He came once inside a manger He is coming back in light [Final Chorus] Come, come, O long-expected One Come, come, the waiting's almost done We light one more candle Till the morning fills the sky Come, Lord Jesus, come Come, Lord Jesus, come [Outro] Come, Lord Jesus, come [Outro] Come, Lord Jesus, come
