This is the natural state of a person who does not belong to Christ. You pray, and then you decide. The plan is yours. God is invited to bless it. When someone crosses it, the anger is out of proportion, because a rival just touched the one thing that must stay in charge. That one thing is you.
A Christian is not stuck there. Whatever you have not surrendered to God still reminds you of who you were. It is as old as Adam and Eve taking the fruit, demanding control that was not theirs. The self that must stay in charge does not always look loud. It looks like a believer who will obey Jesus in any area that does not cost control.
There is no other God, and the call is not a slogan for your leadership. "Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth" is the end of your claim to the center. The "therefore" in Philippians 2 points back to a cross: God highly exalted Jesus because He humbled Himself to death, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of the Father. Denying yourself is not a personality project and not the way you become savior of your own soul. It is what follows a King who already gave Himself.
Confess the coup in plain words: I wanted your place. Then take up the cross that is actually in this day, the apology, the yielded outcome, the obedience that makes you smaller. He is Lord. You can stop auditioning for the job.

Lyrics
[Verse 1]
I built a temple out of silver glass
Where the ancient laws are not allowed to pass
I stepped inside to see who reigned supreme
And found a face reflecting back my dream
I don't bow down to things I cannot see
I found a god that looks exactly like me
Don't tell me what is holy, pure, or wise
When I can read the scripture in my own eyes
[Pre-Chorus]
We trade the rock for the shifting sand
We rewrite the rules with a trembling hand
We want a justice that bends to the ego's call
Where everyone is king behind their own wall
[Chorus]
I place the crown upon my head!
And rewrite everything You said!
The sovereign me, the only lord
We turn "my truth" into a sword!
I place the crown upon my head!
[Verse 2]
Now "my truth" changes like the evening wind
A brand new virtue for the way I sinned
If there's no anchor in the stormy sea
Then justice is a weapon that belongs to me
It's just a battle of a million wills
To see whose voice is louder on the burning hills
We broke the scales and we burned the book
To keep the crown that our vanity took
[Bridge]
My hands are tired from holding up the throne
It's a bitter kingdom when you rule alone
A million tiny kings all fighting for the crown
Building up our empires just to tear each other down
We blocked out the sun, we locked the heavy door
And forgot the holy standard we were looking for
The throne is empty and the Maker's gone
When did self-protection turn so cold and wrong?
[Chorus]
I place the crown upon my head!
And rewrite everything You said!
The sovereign me, the only lord
We turn "my truth" into a sword!
I place the crown upon my head!
[Outro]
The sovereign me...
We turn "my truth" into a sword.
