There was a bumper sticker years ago that said God is my copilot. It sounds devout until you think about what a copilot does. He sits in the right seat, mostly quiet, ready in case the real pilot gets in trouble. That is how many of us treat Jesus. We want Him close and handy, the way you want a spare tire, and the rest of the time we drive. Scripture has a funny story about where that leads. Balaam was so set on his own road that his donkey saw the angel of the LORD before he did, and the LORD finally opened the donkey’s mouth to talk some sense into him. When a donkey has a better sense of direction than you, it may be time to rethink who holds the map.
The first Christians summed up their faith in three words, Jesus is Lord. That title does not mean helpful advisor. It means the One with every right to set the route, because He made us, and then He bought us back at the cross. Paul reminds believers that they belong to Him now, purchased at great cost. That can sound like losing control, but it is really relief. We still make plans, and Scripture calls that wise, yet it is the LORD who establishes our steps. Our own understanding has a long record of wrong turns. His has none. Bowing to Jesus as Lord is not giving up on your life. It is finally trusting the only One who knows the way home.

Lyrics
[Verse 1]
I had a five-year plan and I taped it to the dash
A lifted Jeep, a gas card and a little bit of cash
I said, Lord, You can ride along, just keep it on the low
You hold the snacks and I'll decide which way we're gonna go
Took a shortcut through a pasture, now I'm nose to nose with a cow
She's chewing like she's thinking, buddy, who's driving now?
[Chorus]
Who's driving, who's driving?
Every road I pick goes wrong
Who's driving, who's driving?
I've been steering way too long
Here's the keys, here's the wheel
Jesus, You drive, that's the deal
[Verse 2]
So I chased a bigger paycheck down a bigger interstate
Changed my lanes and changed my churches, said that God could wait
Hit a ramp I didn't notice and I sailed off like a kite
Now I'm dangling from a highway sign that reads Keep Right
Half the town is filming, I'm a video by noon
And the Jeep club tied a rubber duck on there with a balloon
[Chorus]
Who's driving, who's driving?
Every road I pick goes wrong
Who's driving, who's driving?
I've been steering way too long
Here's the keys, here's the wheel
Jesus, You drive, that's the deal
[Bridge]
The fireman cut me down and handed me that duck
Round its neck a little tag, and it didn't say good luck
It said, A man may plan his road
But the Lord will guide his feet
I'd made Jesus my lucky charm
A bobblehead on the seat
[Verse 3]
I slid over to the passenger side and gave Him back the keys
Every dent I put in this old life, He'd paid for, every piece
He said, I'll teach you in the way to go, My eye is on you, friend
You don't have to be a stubborn mule, just trust Me round the bend
Now the road's still got its potholes and I still don't know the route
But I'm riding with the One who made the road and I can't help but shout
[Final Chorus]
You're driving, You're driving
You found me where I went wrong
You're driving, You're driving
And I'm riding right along
You've got the keys, You've got the wheel
You're the King, and that's the deal
[Outro]
Who's driving
You drive
Who's driving
You drive
