Be Still and Know

Track 1 • 3:06
Art for Be Still and Know

The Story

The day will not sit down. A reply is waiting, a bill is due, someone needs an answer, and the quiet minute you meant to keep gets filled before it starts. A lot of Christians call that pace "being responsible." Under it is a smaller creed: if I stop managing the next hour, everything I love will come apart, and God will not catch it. Stillness then feels like failure. Motion feels like faith.

Psalm 46 is not a breathing exercise. It is a song about God ending wars and breaking the weapons, and then telling a frantic world to stop its panic. "Be still, and know that I am God" means He will be exalted among the nations. You are not the one holding history together. Jesus speaks to the same exhaustion from the other side of the cross. He does not say, "Get your life quiet and then come." He says come, you who labor and are heavy laden, and take His yoke. Rest is not an empty calendar. It is being tied to a Lord who is gentle, instead of yoked to your own need to control the outcome.

The idol here is control dressed up as diligence. Lay it down as a false savior. You can obey what today actually requires and still refuse the belief that peace begins when you have secured tomorrow. Come to Christ with the weight. His rest does not make you lazy. It makes Him the one you trust while you work.

Lyrics

[Verse 1] We're building empires out of digital dust — Curating a life that we don't even trust. The algorithm demands that we hustle and sweat, Paying for peace with a lifetime of debt. Pharaoh's still screaming to turn out the bricks — But I'm stepping off of the treadmill of tricks. [Chorus] Drop the bricks — let it go Be still — and know Drop the bricks — let it go Be still — and know Yeah... be still and know [Verse 2] The status quo says that you are what you make, So we sleep with our anxiety wide awake. But manna only falls when your hands are undone — You can't manufacture the win that He won. Cease striving... cease fighting... just drop the supply, The birds don't store grain, and they never ask why. [Chorus] Drop the bricks — let it go Be still — and know Drop the bricks — let it go Be still — and know Yeah... be still and know [Bridge] Six days of labor — but the seventh belongs... To the Maker of rest... and the Singer of songs. It's a covenant boundary — a line in the sand, To prove that our lives... are not saved by our hand. Not a rule to be broken — but a grace to receive, We stop all the doing... to remember believe! Yeah... we rest 'cause He rested... we drop all the chains, 'Cause the Lord is the one... who provides and who reigns! [Chorus] Drop the bricks — let it go Be still — and know Drop the bricks — let it go Be still — and know Yeah... be still and know [Outro] Drop the bricks... Let it go... Be still... And know.
