You can feel the life that would keep the peace. A parent stops sighing if you take the safe job. A church smiles if you never ask the awkward question. Friends stay warm as long as you do not change. So you stay inside what they praise. It feels like love. Often it is fear. Disappointment looks more dangerous than disobedience, and their approval becomes the refuge you actually trust.
That same habit runs the other way, and it is meaner. People get filed before they are known. Wrong political party, wrong race, wrong denomination, wrong way of living, wrong sex, and the file is treated as a reason to dislike them. The world keeps teaching us to separate and to hate. That is not wisdom. It is partiality, and partiality is sin. God does not run His world that way. He makes the sun rise on the evil and on the good, and He sends rain on the just and on the unjust. He loves the world He made. The help He gives is not a mood. He gave His Son so that whoever believes in Him should not perish. Loving a person is not the same as calling every choice good. It is refusing to throw a neighbor away because a category arrived first.
Ask whose voice has been louder than the Word, including the voice that tells you who is allowed to be despised. Confess the fear of people, and confess the hatred, without pretending a label is a verdict. Jesus says to love your enemies and pray for them, because that is what your Father is already like. You were not redeemed to be manageable, and you were not redeemed to sort souls. You were redeemed to be His.
James 2:1 (ESV): “My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory.”
Matthew 5:44–45 (ESV): “But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”
John 3:16 (ESV): “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
