Dig for the Gold (Proverbs 2)

Track 3 • 3:33
Art for Dig for the Gold (Proverbs 2)

The Story

Most of us put our energy into things that will not last. We work long hours for money, status, or security, and we are tired all the time. Meanwhile wisdom gets our leftovers, a verse on a calendar or a quick prayer on the way out the door. We want to be wise without seeking it.

Proverbs 2 says wisdom takes searching. A father tells his son to seek it like silver and search for it like hidden treasure. That is effort, the kind people give to things they truly value. But then comes the surprise. The reason the search succeeds is that the Lord gives wisdom. From His mouth come knowledge and understanding. We seek, and God gives. Our effort does not earn the treasure. It is how we receive a gift. The chapter adds that this wisdom protects. It guards us from people with twisted words and from paths that seem attractive but lead to ruin. The New Testament says the greatest treasure is found in Christ, in whom all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden. He is not hard to find for those who seek Him. Open your Bible and pray, asking the Lord to give what He has promised. He does not hide from people who come looking.

Lyrics

[Verse 1] We chase after gold in a world full of rust, Putting our hope into things we can’t trust. A father looked down and he taught his own heir: "True wisdom is found when you seek it in prayer! Go dig like a miner searching deep in the ground, Cry out for the truth till the treasure is found!" [Chorus] Dig for the gold that will never decay! The Lord is the shield for the upright today! He guards every step when you walk in His light, The truest of treasures in the dark of the night! Yeah, wisdom’s a gift from the Father above— Anchored in truth and surrounded in love! [Verse 2] The world loves a shortcut and whispers in pride, With polished excuses where dangers abide. It tempts with sweet words and it flatters the eye, Leading your heart to believe in a lie. But wisdom protects you from crooked designs, Keeping your feet on the righteous sidelines! [Chorus] Dig for the gold that will never decay! The Lord is the shield for the upright today! He guards every step when you walk in His light, The truest of treasures in the dark of the night! Yeah, wisdom’s a gift from the Father above— Anchored in truth and surrounded in love! [Bridge] It isn’t our power that keeps our feet sound, It’s grace from the Maker where safety is found! He stores up His counsel for all who believe, Open your hands and prepare to receive! [Chorus] Dig for the gold that will never decay! The Lord is the shield for the upright today! He guards every step when you walk in His light, The truest of treasures in the dark of the night! Yeah, wisdom’s a gift from the Father above— Anchored in truth and surrounded in love! [Outro] Dig for the treasure... Walk in His light... The Lord is our shield through the depths of the night!
