Art for Trust in the Lord (Proverbs 3)

The Story

Most of us trust ourselves more than we admit. We rely on our own reasoning, our experience, and our plans. When life goes wrong, we try to think our way out of it. Worry is often a sign that we have quietly made ourselves the one in charge. Proverbs 3 contains some of the best known words in the Bible: trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.

That does not mean we stop thinking. It means our thinking bows to God. In all our ways we acknowledge Him, and He makes our paths straight. The chapter makes that trust concrete. Honor the Lord with your wealth, giving Him the first and not the leftovers. And when hard seasons come, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, because He corrects those He loves, the way a father corrects a son he delights in. That may be the hardest kind of trust: believing God is good when He is shaping us through pain. The cross makes it possible. The Father did not spare His own Son, so we can be sure His discipline is love and never rejection. If you are anxious and grasping, bring your plans and your wallet to Him today. Trust the Father who has already proved His heart toward you.

Lyrics

[Verse 1] We map out our futures and cling to control, Letting our worries take hold of the soul. We lean on our thinking, we lean on our sight, Convinced that our cleverness wins every fight. A father speaks softly: "Let go of your pride, Submit every pathway and walk by His side!" [Chorus] Trust in the Lord with all of your heart! He’ll make your way straight right from the start! Don’t lean on your mind when the shadows are long, The Maker of heaven is steady and strong! Give Him the first of the harvest you make, Walk in the love that no trouble can break! [Verse 2] Honor the Lord with the wealth He bestows, Give Him the firstfruits and watch how it grows! When trials correct you, don’t turn and despise The hand of the Father who’s making you wise. The Father corrects every child that He loves, Shaping our hearts with a grace from above! [Chorus] Trust in the Lord with all of your heart! He’ll make your way straight right from the start! Don’t lean on your mind when the shadows are long, The Maker of heaven is steady and strong! Give Him the first of the harvest you make, Walk in the love that no trouble can break! [Bridge] Better than silver and richer than gold, The sweet gift of wisdom will never grow old! Lie down to sleep with no fear in the night, For the Lord is your fortress, your shield, and your light! [Chorus] Trust in the Lord with all of your heart! He’ll make your way straight right from the start! Don’t lean on your mind when the shadows are long, The Maker of heaven is steady and strong! Give Him the first of the harvest you make, Walk in the love that no trouble can break! [Outro] Trust with all your heart... Straight paths in the light... No fear in the night, resting in the Lord!
