Drink From the Fountain (Proverbs 5)

Track 6 • 3:24
Art for Drink From the Fountain (Proverbs 5)

The Story

Our culture treats faithfulness in marriage as old fashioned and treats temptation as harmless fun. Proverbs 5 disagrees. A father warns his son about the pull of an unfaithful relationship. It begins with words that sound sweet, but it ends in bitterness, wasted years, and regret. The chapter applies to men and women alike. Anyone can be drawn toward what looks exciting and away from the people and promises God has given.

The chapter does not only say no. It also says yes. It calls us to rejoice in the spouse of our youth and to find delight at home. God is not against joy. He designed love to flourish inside faithfulness. And the chapter adds that our ways are before the eyes of the Lord. Nothing is hidden. For many people, that is where shame comes in, because they have already stumbled. If that is you, hear the good news. Paul wrote to believers whose pasts included sexual sin and said, you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus. Christ’s blood is enough for that too. Whether you are married, single, or healing from past failure, come to Him. He forgives completely, and He gives a fountain of joy that never runs dry.

Lyrics

[Verse 1] The sweet talk tastes like honey now, A road that leads to broken vows. The worldly promise looks so bright, Then pulls you down into the night! Her steps are heading to the grave, Hold fast to truth that comes to save! [Chorus] Drink from the fountain pure and free! The Lord knows all we’re meant to be! Walk in the light and guard your heart, Keep to the truth right from the start! Turn from the trap of empty gold, Rejoice in love that won’t grow old! (Won’t grow old!) [Verse 2] Don’t throw your strength and days away, To weep in sorrow and decay. Enjoy the home that God has blessed, Where true devotion finds its rest! No broken path will bring you peace, His grace is where the shadows cease! [Chorus] Drink from the fountain pure and free! The Lord knows all we’re meant to be! Walk in the light and guard your heart, Keep to the truth right from the start! Turn from the trap of empty gold, Rejoice in love that won’t grow old! (Won’t grow old!) [Bridge] The eyes of God see all we do, His righteous ways are straight and true! The foolish stumble in their chains, While faithful hearts are free from pain! [Chorus] Drink from the fountain pure and free! The Lord knows all we’re meant to be! Walk in the light and guard your heart, Keep to the truth right from the start! Turn from the trap of empty gold, Rejoice in love that won’t grow old! [Outro] Pure and free... Guard your heart... Rejoice in love that won’t grow old!
