Sparks of Fire (Proverbs 6)

Track 7 • 3:38
Art for Sparks of Fire (Proverbs 6)

The Story

Most destruction in life is gradual. A little laziness becomes a lost job. A small debt becomes a crushing one. A careless look becomes an affair. A bit of gossip becomes a broken friendship. We tell ourselves we can handle the risk. Proverbs 6 asks a pointed question: can a man carry fire against his chest and not be burned? Some things cannot be played with safely.

The chapter is a practical tour of dangers. It warns against rash financial promises, urging a quick, humble exit. It points to small creatures that work faithfully without a supervisor, as a rebuke to laziness. It lists seven things the Lord hates: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that plots evil, feet that rush to wrongdoing, a false witness, and one who sows discord among brothers. And it warns again against adultery, which burns everyone it touches. Running through all of it is a lifeline. The commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light. God does not leave us guessing. But knowing the warnings is not the same as keeping them, and we have all been burned. Jesus walked through this world without sin and took our burns on Himself at the cross. Bring Him your sparks today, before they spread.

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Escape the snare of foolish debt, Before you fall into regret! Go watch the ant upon the ground, Where honest diligence is found! She stores her food without a boss, While lazy slumber leads to loss! [Chorus] You cannot carry sparks of fire, And walk unharmed through your desire! The Word of God’s a shining lamp, A steady light inside the camp! Walk in the truth and keep your feet, His wisdom makes our joy complete! [Verse 2] The Lord despises haughty eyes, A wicked tongue that spreads in lies. The hands that cause the innocent grief, And deceitful hearts that steal relief. He hates the ones who stir up strife, And break the harmony of life! [Chorus] You cannot carry sparks of fire, And walk unharmed through your desire! The Word of God’s a shining lamp, A steady light inside the camp! Walk in the truth and keep your feet, His wisdom makes our joy complete! [Bridge] Bind His commandments on your heart, And let the foolish thoughts depart! When you are walking, they will lead, Providing all the grace you need! [Chorus] You cannot carry sparks of fire, And walk unharmed through your desire! The Word of God’s a shining lamp, A steady light inside the camp! Walk in the truth and keep your feet, His wisdom makes our joy complete! [Outro] Shining lamp... Keep your feet... God’s wisdom makes our joy complete!
