We pay close attention to what goes into our bodies and our bank accounts, but rarely to what goes into our hearts. Hours of content, conversations, resentments, and fantasies pour in without a filter. Then we wonder why our words are harsh, our choices careless, or our faith dry. Proverbs 4 says the problem is upstream: everything we say and do flows out of the heart, so the heart is what needs watching.
In Scripture, the heart is more than feelings. It is the control center of a person: desires, thoughts, loyalties, and will. Whatever rules there will eventually show in our mouths, our eyes, and our feet, and the chapter mentions all three. A father passes on what his own father taught him. Get wisdom, prize her, and she will honor you. He describes two paths. The way of the wicked is deep darkness, where people stumble without knowing why. The path of the righteous is like the dawn, shining brighter and brighter until full day. Yet none of us can guard our hearts perfectly. God promises to give a new heart, and in Christ He does. Guarding the heart is not self-made purity. It is staying close to Jesus, filling your heart with His word, and letting His light grow in you day by day.

[Verse 1]
A father told his children what he learned when he was young:
"Hold fast to true instruction with every word and tongue.
Get wisdom, get understanding, don’t let it slip away,
She’ll guide your steps and guard you through every single day!
Prize her above the riches and all the world can bring,
A crown of grace and honor from our sovereign King!"
[Chorus]
Guard your heart with all you’ve got!
That’s where the springs of life are caught!
Fix your eyes and look straight ahead,
Walk in the light where the truth has led!
Leave the dark and turn your feet,
God makes the shining path complete!
(Guard your heart!)
[Verse 2]
The path of the wicked stumbles, blind in the deep of night,
They fall on every shadow while running from the light.
The way of the righteous rises like the morning sun,
Shining bright and brighter until the day is won!
Keep corrupt talk far away, let your gaze be true,
Watch the steps you’re taking in everything you do!
[Chorus]
Guard your heart with all you’ve got!
That’s where the springs of life are caught!
Fix your eyes and look straight ahead,
Walk in the light where the truth has led!
Leave the dark and turn your feet,
God makes the shining path complete!
(Guard your heart!)
[Bridge]
Every choice and every thought,
Every lesson that we’re taught—
Life flows outward from inside,
Where the grace of God abides!
Walk straight forward, do not sway,
Step by step along His way!
[Chorus]
Guard your heart with all you’ve got!
That’s where the springs of life are caught!
Fix your eyes and look straight ahead,
Walk in the light where the truth has led!
Leave the dark and turn your feet,
God makes the shining path complete!
[Outro]
Guard your heart...
Springs of life...
Shining brighter, walking in the light!
