Heaven Is Worth the Wait

Track 2 • 3:38
Art for Heaven Is Worth the Wait

The Story

When someone we love dies, the questions come fast: why them, why now, why am I still here? Our culture tends to give us two bad options. One is to stuff the grief down and move on. The other is to treat heaven as a vague, sentimental place where everyone ends up. Scripture refuses both. It lets us grieve honestly, because death is an enemy. But we don’t grieve like people who have no hope, because heaven isn’t wishful thinking. Jesus promised to prepare a home for His people, and the best part of that home is not the reunion, as precious as it is. It is being with Him. We get there only through Christ, who died and rose for us, not by being good enough.

That hope also changes the time in between. If God has left us here, our days aren’t just a countdown to be endured, and they aren’t for our own comfort either. He uses grief to teach us dependence on Him, and He gives us ways to serve the hungry, welcome the lonely, and pass on the kindness we were shown. The longing for heaven isn’t escapism. It gives us strength to love well now, because we know the story ends with Jesus Himself, where sorrow and death are gone for good.

Associated Scripture

John 14:2-3 (ESV): "In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also."

1 Thessalonians 4:13 (ESV): "But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope."

Revelation 21:4 (ESV): "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away."

Lyrics

[Verse 1] I knelt beside an empty chair And asked why I was left behind I brought my questions to Him there And found He hadn’t left my side He keeps my feet upon the clay Not just to count the passing years He humbles my proud heart each day His grace is stronger than my fears [Pre-Chorus] He went ahead to make a place And I’ll get there by grace [Chorus] Heaven is worth the wait Jesus will meet me there I’ll see the face that took my place And you’ll be standing near Every tear wiped away Heaven is worth the wait [Verse 2] I knead the bread with flour and grace The recipe you left behind And set a table in this place For any weary soul to find The Lord gave hands to lift the weak To give away the love we knew And every time I feed and speak I feel His purpose shining through [Pre-Chorus] He went ahead to make a place And I’ll get there by grace [Chorus] Heaven is worth the wait Jesus will meet me there I’ll see the face that took my place And you’ll be standing near Every tear wiped away Heaven is worth the wait [Bridge] Till then I’ll plant the marigolds You loved along the garden wall I’ll break the bread and speak His name And make a little room for all [Final Chorus] Heaven is worth the wait Jesus will meet me there I’ll see the face that took my place And you’ll be standing near Every tear wiped away Heaven is worth the wait [Outro] Jesus will meet me there Heaven is worth the wait
