Hold On to Me

Track 7 • 3:28
Art for Hold On to Me

The Story

The fear under a lot of "I’ll try harder" religion is simple: if my grip slips, I am gone. So we measure yesterday’s devotion, panic when desire feels thin, and call the panic holiness. Often it is unbelief. We have quietly decided that salvation is a bar we keep clearing, and that God’s love lasts only as long as our clutch does.

Jesus speaks another way. His sheep hear His voice. He gives them eternal life, and no one snatches them out of His hand — or out of the Father’s. Paul is sure that the One who began a good work will bring it to completion. Perseverance is real. You must not toy with sin or shrug at a cold heart. But the deep comfort is not the strength of your fingers. It is the strength of His. When you have wandered, self-rescue is not repentance. Turning around is.

If you have drifted an inch at a time, do not start a project to earn your way back and call it faith. Confess the wandering. He is not embarrassed to keep people who cannot keep themselves. Cling to Christ the way a child clings to a father who is already holding harder.

Associated Scripture

John 10:27-29 (ESV): "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand."

Philippians 1:6 (ESV): "And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ."

Suno Style Prompt: synth-pop indie pop, steady driving pulse with a gradual rise, vocal-forward male lead moving from sorrowful, intimate phrasing to full driving delivery, fingerpicked acoustic guitar and subtle ambient pads opening into bass, driving-snare drums and swelling electric guitar, gated digital reverb, anthemic final chorus dropping to a soft acoustic outro

Lyrics

[Verse 1] It didn't start with a slam of the door Just ignoring the Bible it was such a bore A hurried prayer running out to the car Convinced in my head that I wasn't that far Small compromises swept under the rug Trading Your peace for the things I could touch [Pre-Chorus] Caught in the pull of the undertow Pulling me where I shouldn't go An inch at a time till the shore was lost [Chorus] Now I'm out in the deep, I drifted away Lord, call me back to where I should stay Drop the anchor and quiet the sea Hold on to me, hold on to me [Verse 2] I kept myself busy, called it my best Forgot that You called me to stillness and rest Excuses came easy, convictions grew thin Letting the noise of the world crowd You in Now the silence is heavy, the air has grown cold Chasing the shadow of what I should hold [Pre-Chorus] Caught in the pull of the undertow Pulling me where I shouldn't go An inch at a time till the shore was lost [Chorus] Now I'm out in the deep, I drifted away Lord, call me back to where I should stay Drop the anchor and quiet the sea Hold on to me, hold on to me [Bridge] You never moved an inch from me You're the solid rock beneath the sea It was my hands that dropped the line Drifting away by my own design So speak to the wind and break the tide Reach out and pull me back to Your side! [Chorus] Now I'm turning around, no longer away You called me back and here I will stay The anchor is down, You quiet the sea You're holding on to me, You're holding on to me [Outro] Please hold on to me. Anchored in Your holy will.
