Obedience is easy to admire and hard to do when it costs us our reputation. Joseph had a respectable life and a plan. Then the news came that the woman he was pledged to marry was pregnant, and the only reasonable explanation would ruin them both. Even before God spoke, Joseph showed a merciful heart. He chose to end things quietly rather than expose her.
Then God told him the truth, and Joseph obeyed the same morning. He did not get the whole picture. He got a word from God and a name for the Child. That was enough. He took Mary as his wife, protected her and the baby, and later uprooted his family more than once at God's direction.
Most of us want God's will to come with a guarantee that people will understand. We worry about what others think and quietly adjust our obedience to keep our image intact. Joseph reminds us that faith is often quiet. Scripture records none of his words, only his actions.
But Joseph is not mainly a model to copy. His obedience pointed to a greater Son who obeyed perfectly, who gave up far more than a good name, and who did it to save people like us who often choose reputation over God. Because Jesus said yes all the way to the cross, we are forgiven for our failures and free to trust God with what others think.

Lyrics
[Intro]
He never said a word we know
But Joseph said yes
[Intro]
He never said a word we know
But Joseph said yes
[Verse 1]
A carpenter in Nazareth
A good name in the town
Then Mary came home carrying
What would bring that good name down
He was a just man, he was kind
He would not make her shame be seen
He planned to let her go in quiet
Then God came in a dream
[Pre-Chorus]
Do not fear to take her home
This Child is from the Holy Ghost
[Chorus]
Joseph said yes with his hands
Joseph said yes with his life
He woke up and did what the Lord had said
And he took Mary home as his wife
No speech, no song, just a quiet man
Joseph said yes
[Verse 2]
The whispers started in the town
The looks across the street
He let his reputation go
And laid it at God's feet
He built a home around a promise
He could not understand
He traded every plan he had
For the Father's plan
[Pre-Chorus]
Do not fear to take her home
This Child is from the Holy Ghost
[Chorus]
Joseph said yes with his hands
Joseph said yes with his life
He woke up and did what the Lord had said
And he took Mary home as his wife
No speech, no song, just a quiet man
Joseph said yes
[Bridge]
And when the Baby came
He called His name Jesus
For He will save His people
From their sins, Jesus
[Final Chorus]
Joseph said yes with his hands
Joseph said yes with his life
He woke up and did what the Lord had said
And he took Mary home as his wife
No speech, no song, just a quiet man
Joseph said yes
[Outro]
And the Son he raised
Would say yes to the cross for us
Joseph said yes
