My True North

Track 1 • 4:20
Art for My True North

The Story

Everyone steers by something. For some of us it's our plans, our feelings, or a voice we trust online. Most days we barely notice how much we lean on ourselves, until a loss, a bad decision, or a confusing season leaves us unsure which direction is forward. Underneath the confusion sits a deeper problem. We have treated our own understanding as the fixed point, as if our hearts could guide us safely. Scripture is honest about that. We don't stray because no road was given. We stray because we prefer our own.

God doesn't leave us to find better instincts. He sent His Son, who walked in perfect trust to the cross, took the judgment our straying deserved, and rose so lost people could be brought back to the Father. When He calls us back, it is mercy, not a lecture. His Word shows us what we could never work out alone, and His Spirit steadies us when we've lost our bearings. If you've been steering by yourself, you can tell Him so today. He finishes what He starts.

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Sunshine or starlight, You're never far behind A whisper of grace speaking peace to my mind. I try to wander, but there You are A faithful compass beneath every star. [Pre-Chorus] I drift, You pull me back I lose the trail, You bring me back on track. [Chorus] Your love's in my heart like a melody Mercy and grace setting my heart free. Even when I lose my course And no matter where I go forth Through every storm and every force Jesus, You are my True North. [Verse 2] The map of Your promise is here in Your Book My anchor of hope every time that I look. Still small voice, loud heart, Your name in the sound You steady my soul on this holy ground. [Bridge] When the fog rolls in and the shadows rise And the storm clouds cover the midnight skies When the winds are shifting left and right And I lose all sense of my own sight Your compass holds steady, Your mercy holds fast You carry me home till the tempest has passed! [Chorus] Your love's in my heart like a melody Mercy and grace setting my heart free. Even when I lose my course And no matter where I go forth Through every storm and every force Jesus, You are my True North. [Outro] Sunshine or starlight, wherever I go You're my True North The Way that I know.
