Most of us are not openly rebellious toward God. We go to church, we pray, and we mean it. Yet nearly all of us have some area where we have quietly decided that His word does not get the final say. It might be a grudge we are not ready to drop, a habit we keep defending, or a plan we refuse to hold loosely. We hear the call to change, nod along, and keep living the same way. Scripture's word for this is stubbornness, and it runs all through Israel's story. They saw God's mighty works and still went their own way. It would be easy to look down on them, but their story is a mirror, not a museum. The root is the same in every heart: we want to be our own lord, at least in one place. And when we keep refusing, God may let us taste the results of our own way, as a Father's discipline, so that we will return to Him.
The good news is that God does not leave stubborn people to fix themselves. We cannot soften our own hearts any more than we can give ourselves new life. So God sent His Son. Jesus did what we would not do. He yielded to His Father fully and willingly, walked toward Jerusalem knowing what waited there, and gave up His life on the cross for people who had resisted God for generations. He paid for our resistance, and He promises what only God can do: a new heart, made tender by His Spirit. That means repentance is not a performance that earns His welcome. It is the honest response of someone who has finally stopped arguing. If there is an area you have kept from Him, or if you have never come to Him at all, you can tell Him plainly today. He is gentle with all who come, and He finishes the change He begins. Surrender to Him is not defeat. It is coming home.

Lyrics
[Verse 1]
You said forgive him, I said not yet
You said let go, I just tightened my grip
You said be still, I scrolled through the night
And told myself I was doing alright
I sing on Sunday, I lift my hands
But there's one room You don't get to command
My jaw is set and my eyes stay straight
You call my name and I make You wait
[Pre-Chorus]
Ears wide open, but nothing gets through
Head held high, but I won't look at You
[Chorus]
I got a stiff neck, stiff neck
I won't bow, I won't bend
I got a stiff neck, stiff neck
Showing You my back again
Lord, take hold before it breaks
Bend me low, whatever it takes
[Verse 2]
They watched the sea split, they ate the bread
Then built a calf and danced instead
Forty years walking the same old sand
One hill away from the Promised Land
And I know that circle, I've worn the track
Same fight, same silence, same turning back
My prayers go flat and my house goes cold
And You hand me over to the way I chose
[Pre-Chorus]
You keep on speaking, I stop my ears
Then wonder why You feel so far from here
[Chorus]
I got a stiff neck, stiff neck
I won't bow, I won't bend
I got a stiff neck, stiff neck
Showing You my back again
Lord, take hold before it breaks
Bend me low, whatever it takes
[Bridge]
You set Your face like flint to the cross
You never turned back, whatever the cost
You bowed Your head when the work was done
Bowed it low for this stiff-necked one
Take out the stone that I can't break
Give me a heart that bends Your way
[Chorus]
Take my stiff neck, stiff neck
Teach me how to bow and bend
Take my stiff neck, stiff neck
Turn my face to You again
Lord, take hold before it breaks
Bend me low, whatever it takes
[Outro]
Bend me low
Turn my face to You
