Stand Firm

Track 4 • 3:16
Art for Stand Firm

The Story

Most of our battles don't look like battles. They look like a heavy heart before the coffee is made, an old accusation that shows up uninvited, or a temptation that sounds perfectly reasonable in the moment. It's natural to meet those days by trying harder, pulling ourselves together and hoping our willpower holds. But God never asked us to walk into the day with our own resources. The armor Paul describes belongs to God Himself, and He gives it to His children. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation and His Word aren't things we manufacture. They are gifts we receive and keep putting on, because in Christ they are already ours.

That changes what faithfulness looks like on an ordinary Tuesday. When a lie comes, we answer it with what God has said instead of arguing with our feelings. When guilt piles up, we remember whose righteousness covers us. And when the day has worn us down, we pray, not only for ourselves but for the people walking the same road beside us. Victory doesn't mean we never get knocked back. It means that when the day is over, after the hits and the wobbles, we are still on our feet, held up by Someone far stronger than we are.

Associated Scripture

Ephesians 6:10-11 (ESV): "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil."

Ephesians 6:13-18 (ESV): "Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,"

2 Corinthians 10:4 (ESV): "For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds."

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Feet hit the floor and the fear's awake, The liar's had all night, He hands me yesterday's mistakes And dares me to fight; So I fasten on the belt of truth, The breastplate of Your righteousness, Lace up the gospel of peace on my feet, Dressed in Yours and not my best. [Pre-Chorus] It's not flesh and blood I'm facing, And it's not my strength I bring; When the evil day comes knocking, I will stand in Him! [Chorus] Stand firm, stand firm In the strength of His might! Take the shield, quench the fire, Take the sword, hold the line; Stand firm, stand firm, Dressed in the armor of Christ! Dressed in the armor of Christ! [Verse 2] By noon the flaming darts fly in, “Too far gone, you'll never change,” I set the helmet of salvation on, Saved, and He knows my name; I take the sword, the Word of God, “It is written,” and the liar flees, And shoes of peace You laced at dawn Walk me to my neighbor's need. [Bridge] Pray, pray at all times, In the Spirit, on my knees, For the brother and the sister Who are standing next to me; Pray, pray at all times Till the evil day is through, And when I've done everything, I'm still standing, Lord, in You. [Final Chorus] Stand firm, stand firm In the strength of His might! Take the shield, quench the fire, Take the sword, hold the line; Stand firm, stand firm, Dressed in the armor of Christ! [Outro] Stand firm, stand firm, Stand firm, stand firm, In the strength of His might.
