You Met Me at Morning

Track 5 • 4:09
Art for You Met Me at Morning

The Story

After Peter denied Jesus three times, he went back to what he knew. He fished all night and caught nothing. At daybreak a figure on the beach called out and told the men where to cast. When Peter reached the shore, he found a charcoal fire with fish and bread already laid out, a fire much like the one he had stood beside on the night he failed. Jesus did not open with a lecture. He fed a ruined disciple breakfast, and then He gently restored him.

Depression, regret and anxiety often speak loudest in the dark hours, telling us we have gone too far or that nothing will ever change. This song answers with that shoreline. The risen Christ moves toward the one who failed Him, and His compassion does not run dry overnight. You don't have to solve tomorrow to receive today's mercy. Take the next faithful step, then the next, and trust Him with what you can't see yet. If your night has been long, He is still standing on the shore for the weary, with something prepared.

Lyrics

[Verse 1] The night kept its hand on the room, And every small hour felt the same; I counted the cracks in the ceiling And struggled to answer my name. My prayers were a breath in the darkness, My heart was a locked, heavy door; I thought I had fallen beyond You, Too tired to reach for the shore. [Pre-Chorus] But somewhere beneath all my sorrow A promise was keeping its flame; You entered the hush of my hurting And called me by name. [Chorus] Jesus, You met me at morning When I could not find my way through; You were the light after midnight, And the whole sky opened to You. You laid the first light on my face And met me with mercy and grace. [Verse 2] The dark had been speaking in circles, Saying my story was done; Then You stood on the shore in the stillness, Like color returning with sun. No thunder, no quick explanation, Just kindness that stayed through the ache; You gave me the strength for this morning And room for the next breath to take. [Pre-Chorus] The night may return with its questions, The road may be steep and unknown; But now I remember Your nearness, I won't walk alone. [Bridge] When my mind says, "Stay in the darkness," You call from the shore, "Come and eat." There's fire and bread in the morning, And grace for a failure like me. One breath, then another, I follow; One step, then another, I stand. The day is not mine to command, Lord, My life is held in Your hand. [Final Chorus] Jesus, You meet me each morning And walk where I still cannot see; You are the light after midnight, Your mercy keeps reaching for me. You lay the first light on my face And meet me with mercy and grace. [Outro] Your mercies are new every morning, You met me at morning again.
