Search Me, O God

This is a private spiritual check-in. It is not a quiz, and it does not score you. It is a short time of prayer where you ask God to search your heart, the way Psalm 139 already invites.

You can answer every prompt in your head. Nothing you type here is saved, sent, or stored on our servers. There is no account. The real conversation is with God, not with a form.

How to: Sit somewhere you can stay for a few minutes. Read the opening prayer. Walk the steps at your own pace. You do not have to finish all of them. Come back as often as you need. God is not grading your honesty. He already knows you, and in Christ He still draws near.

Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!

Psalm 139:23-24 (ESV)

This prayer sits over the whole page. God searches. We do not fix ourselves. We ask Him to look, and we trust Him to lead.

Each step shows Scripture and a Pray it prompt on the front. Tap a step, or press Enter or Space on Turn the card, for more guidance, more from God's Word, and songs. Tap empty space on the back to flip back.

Step 1 of 6

Invite Him to search

Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!

Psalm 139:23 (ESV)

Pray it

Say Psalm 139:23 slowly. Tell Him you are willing for Him to look. Sit quiet for a breath or two. You do not have to dig yourself up. Ask Him to show what He wants you to see.

Step 1: Invite Him to search

You are not starting a self-audit. You are asking the God who already knows you to search you kindly. He is not surprised by what He finds. Before a word is on your tongue, He knows it altogether, and in Jesus He still welcomes you.

More from God's Word

O LORD, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you know it altogether.

Psalm 139:1-4 (ESV)

And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Hebrews 4:13 (ESV)

Songs

Step 2 of 6

Look back with Him

Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the LORD!

Lamentations 3:40 (ESV)

Pray it

Thank Him for two or three gifts from the day or week, even small ones. Then name one place that felt heavy, confusing, or empty. Talk to Him about both.

Step 2: Look back with Him

Look over the day or the week with God beside you, not as a scorekeeper. Name what was good, and thank Him. Name what was hard, and tell Him the truth. Gratitude and honesty can sit in the same prayer. This is not polishing a highlight reel. It is remembering that He was already there.

More from God's Word

Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.

Psalm 51:6 (ESV)

Songs

Step 3 of 6

Notice the heart

Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.

Proverbs 4:23 (ESV)

Pray it

Ask Him, "What was I wanting most?" Name one place you hid, controlled, people-pleased, or numbed out. Bring that desire to Him without dressing it up.

Step 3: Notice the heart

Ask where your heart ran. Where did you turn toward God? Where did you hide, perform, grasp for control, chase approval, cling to comfort, or reach for power? Everyday idols are often quiet. God can name them without crushing you. The point is not to invent guilt. It is to let Him show what you were trusting instead of Him.

More from God's Word

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? “I the LORD search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.”

Jeremiah 17:9-10 (ESV)

Your heart can fool you, and God still searches it. He does not leave you there. The next step turns to the mercy Jesus already bought.

Step 4 of 6

Confess and receive

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1:9 (ESV)

Pray it

Name what He showed you. Ask for forgiveness because of Jesus. Then thank Him that there is no condemnation left for those who are in Christ. Receive it. Do not try to earn it back.

Step 4: Confess and receive

Confession is agreeing with God about the truth, then receiving what Jesus already paid for. It is not groveling until you feel clean. His faithfulness holds the forgiveness, not your apology skills. This page is not a full confession ritual. That can wait for its own page. For now, turn briefly to the gospel and rest on Christ's finished work.

More from God's Word

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:1 (ESV)

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

Psalm 51:10 (ESV)

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 4:16 (ESV)

Step 5 of 6

Ask Him to lead

And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!

Psalm 139:24 (ESV)

Pray it

Ask Him for one concrete next step. Tell Him you will trust Him with it. If you need short words after this, use a breath prayer. If the honest look opened grief or fear, lament is welcome. If an identity lie got loud, remember who He says you are.

Step 5: Ask Him to lead

Searching is not the end. David asks God to lead him in the way everlasting. Ask for one next step, not a five-year plan. It may be a hard conversation, a quiet yes, a boundary, a rest, or simply another prayer. Leave the how and the when with Him. Trust is leaning on what He has done and promised, sometimes before your feelings catch up.

Songs

Optional · Step 6 of 6

Leave it with Him

Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah

Psalm 62:8 (ESV)

Pray it

Thank Him that He searched, that He forgives, and that He leads. Rest. You are known, and in Christ you are kept.

Optional · Step 6: Leave it with Him

You do not have to carry the check-in out the door like unfinished homework. Pour it out, and leave it with the One who is a refuge. If your mind is still loud, sit one more minute and breathe a short Scripture prayer. God heard you. You can go.

Where to go next

A closing word

God searches hearts because He loves His people, not because He needs more evidence against you. Jesus already walked into every grievous way in our place. He died for sinners and rose again, so the One who knows you fully is also the One who can lead you home.

but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8 (ESV)

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:1 (ESV)

Songs

If you don't know Him yet: you can start right here. Turn to Jesus, who died for sinners and rose again, trust Him, and bring Him your whole heart. The Good News page says it more fully.
